Summary
Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center connects people to people and people to nature. The Wildlife Education Program supports this mission by connecting people to over 40 animal ambassadors that call Shaver’s Creek home, including residents of the Klingsberg Aviary and Litzinger Herpetarium. This position supports the daily operations and educational programming of the Wildlife Education Program at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency and comprehensive knowledge of animal care and training principles, practices, procedures, and protocols, as well as wildlife ecology, conservation, and natural history. They will develop and deliver seasonal educational programs for the Wildlife Education Program and represent the Wildlife Education Program both internally and externally.
As Wildlife Education Program Coordinator, you will:

Support daily operations and management of the Wildlife Education Program, including the Klingsberg Aviary and Litzinger Herpetarium.

Help maintain the records, resources, and facilities necessary for the care and welfare of resident wildlife.

Prepare resident wildlife for their role as ambassadors for their species through medical, behavioral, and environmental management.

Support enclosure design and maintenance.

Train ambassador animals with operant and classical conditioning, prioritizing positive reinforcement.

Develop and deliver educational programming to visitors with ambassador animals, including but not limited to daily impromptu/informal engagements and large seasonal events.

Support our emerging professional (student training) program for experiential learning of caring for and conserving wildlife; supervise and mentor students as needed.

Represent the Wildlife Education Program and Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center at campus and community events for the advertisement and recruitment of program participants and visitation.
An ideal candidate might have:

Experience working at an environmental education facility such as a zoo, aquarium, museum, park, historical site, and/or botanical garden.

Experience designing and developing age-appropriate education programs for formal and informal learning audiences.

Experience leading programming for diverse audiences and various group sizes.

Experience caring for wildlife at an educational facility such as a zoo, aquarium, museum, park, historical site, and/or botanic garden.
Education and Experience:
Typically requires and Associate Degree or higher. Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation Information
Salary determined based on background and experience within range: $35,000 - $45,000
