Join our dynamic Urban Forest Stewardship team and help us engage the community in caring for Surrey’s shade trees and natural areas. We are looking for an innovative and collaborative individual to be our next Stewardship Programmer. Share your passion for nature as you plan and oversee a wide range of environmental stewardship programs and projects for volunteers, the public and diverse community groups.
This is an auxiliary position with variable hours, based on a predicted 32-hour work week (typically Tuesday to Friday, with frequent weekends and some evenings).

Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Stewardship Programmer, you will help oversee a team of staff and volunteers to increase awareness and care for Surrey’s natural areas and shade trees. You will:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate a wide range of programs and projects including tree sales, invasive plant removal, Releaf tree planting, shade tree care, events, and other environmental education and stewardship initiatives

  • Demonstrate strong leadership ability in recruiting, training, supervising and scheduling junior staff and volunteers

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, program participants, staff and the public

  • Demonstrate considerable understanding of environmental education and stewardship as you research and develop new program ideas

  • Share your knowledge of local native and invasive flora and fauna

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Develop and distribute educational and promotional materials

  • Carry out various organizational and administrative duties, and perform other tasks as required

  • Have the physical co-ordination and stamina necessary to carry out the duties of the position

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution

  • Two years of progressively responsible experience (including supervision) in environmental stewardship and/or education

  • Current Occupational First Aid Level One certificate (or acceptable equivalent)

  • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license with a safe driving history

Compensation Information

$30.21/hour
