The Unit Leader is responsible for the total of their assigned camp units including camper supervision and program planning and delivery. The Unit Leader is an entry level member of the leadership team and therefore are expected to be the lead counselor and supervise Unit Counselors in their unit.

Summary

Job Duties:  

Program Delivery* 

  • Develop, deliver and supervise facilitation of programs within an assigned specialty area.
  • Accommodate camper skill levels and adapt programs and activities based on age and abilities of campers, ensuring programs are accessible to all participants.
  • Ensure unit counselors and campers follow safety and educational procedures.
  • Certify units follow their session schedule and fulfill advertised activities and programs.   

Supervisory Duties* 

  • Maintain confidentiality as a member of the leadership team.
  • Manage and maintain program spaces, supplies and equipment. Conduct inventory and alert the Program Director of any safety, maintenance or program supply needs.
  • Act as first level advisor and mentor for counselors with their professional and personal needs. Act as advocate for campers and counselors.
  • Help lead and participate in all camp activities.
  • Lead and participate in unit cookouts, morning/evening rituals, ceremonies and bedtime checks. Model and follow Girl Scouts traditions.  
  • Assist with unit counselor breaks.  

    *Other duties may be assigned as needed. 

Required Skills/Experiences: 

  • Must be 21+ years old and have graduated high school.
  • 1-3 years experience working with children in camp setting or equivalent.
  • Documented experience or certifications in specialty area of programming.
  • Combined mixture of experience and education in education, camps, outdoor recreation, or environmental studies preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising peers preferred.

Compensation Information

Starting @ $100/day, 6 days a week with one 24-hour period off a week and daily 2 hour breaks
