Summary
The Adult Teacher Naturalist teaches programs on local ecology across the region with the goals of engagement and moving people towards conservation action. This work will take place inside classrooms, online and outside at our sanctuaries and other conservation areas including the salt marsh, tidal flats, forest habitats and on kayaks. The majority of hours will be teaching and overseeing adult programs, serve as the accessibility lead in our region, and the hiring and supervision of seasonal program staff.
The successful candidate will bring the following to our team of professional educators: enthusiasm for and knowledge of the natural world and environmental education; comfort instructing in the field; an ability to work collaboratively in a team setting; strong networking and communication abilities; an interest and ability to work with audiences of different backgrounds, and excellent interpersonal skills for working the general public.
Responsibilities
- Develop and teach programming for the region’s adult audience to include; field schools, kayak trips, and library programs
- Coordinate, schedule, and teach visitor experience birding and other natural history programs for both summer and year-round audiences as well as community events
- Serve as the region’s accessibility representative in the statewide MAPLE (Mass Audubon Accessible Programs and Learning Experiences) professional learning group. Coordinate and lead programming such as Birding for All as needed and work with education and facilities teams to consult on and assist with MAPLE initiatives such as All Person’s Trails
- Train and work with adult volunteers across Mass Audubon Cape Cod
- Assist the Lead TN with the hiring and supervision of seasonal staff
- Assist in activities during vacation weeks, camp, special events and support membership development, science, advocacy, and fundraising, as needed
Compensation Information
This position’s pay range is $22.90-$25.67/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.
