Four talented Teacher/Naturalists have the chance to live and work at the Seashore House each school year. The NEED Academy provides the opportunity for 5th grade students to live, explore, and study in a beautiful setting within the Cape Cod National Seashore. Our living space is a former Coast Guard Station with some grand views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamet River valley. Our classroom consists of the beaches, dunes, woods, marshes, bogs, swamps, and ponds of the National Seashore. This is a residential position for the school year with a fixed calendar.

Summary

Responsibilities: Teacher/Naturalists lead 3 hikes/lessons per day for their teaching group.  Teachers develop and present experiential lessons based on the MA Education Frameworks.  Lessons are centered on the local environments. Complete description of job responsibilities and work hours .

Qualifications: Love of being outdoors in all kinds of weather on the great outer beach of the Cape Cod National Seashore and experience in teaching, natural history interpretation, marine science, or general ecology strongly recommended.  Experience with youth, residential education, and facilitating team building preferred.  B.S. or equivalent experience required.  Current CPR & First Aid certification need to be attained by start of program.  Candidates with certification in Wilderness first-aid or currently holding a CDL are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation Information

Salary:  Salary is based on number of program days in the entire school year and is paid bi-weekly.  Anticipated salary for first year Teacher/Naturalist $19,650 distributed evenly across 20 pay periods, with potential for up to 2% increase.

Private room provided for the term of the program.  Board is provided when students are in residence and fully stocked kitchen is open for staff use at all times.

Staff are employed by the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District and participate in the Barnstable County Retirement program.  Health, Life, and Dental Insurance are available.
