The Town of Brookline’s Recreation Department is seeking energetic, responsible, and organized educators for site director positions at our nature-based summer camp for children ages 5-13 years. Camp runs July 6 to August 26, 2022 and hourly rate is $22.00. Join us for a fun, active, and rewarding summer!

Summary

The Town of Brookline’s Recreation Department is seeking energetic, responsible, and organized educators for site director positions at our nature-based summer camp for children ages 5-13 years. Nature Camp is a unique camp program which emphasizes hands-on, field-based, experiential nature and science learning in a small intimate setting. The Camp Site Director will manage the administrative side of the camp, lead nature-themed lessons, games, and activities, supervise campers in the classroom and on daily field trips, and be a positive and engaging presence with campers and interact with them throughout the day. 

Additional duties will include basic camp admin duties such as organizing forms and supplies, supervising Nature Counselors, driving a 12-passenger van to all off-site locations, dealing with disciplinary issues, and creating curriculum and activities. The Nature Camp Site Director will report to the Brookline Recreation Assistant Director who will help enforce camp rules and policies. The Site Director will also have the opportunity to lead local field trips such as gardening, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. Nature Camp guarantees a fun, active, and rewarding summer!

Schedule: Camp runs from July through August each season. The Site Director must be available for staff training prior to camp start date and for all weeks from July 6th through August 26th 2022. Time commitment is 8:15AM-3:15PM Monday through Friday. Some pre-camp planning and training will be involved. Some extra planning and administrative duties during the week can be expected.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be aged 21 years or higher, have at least 2 years/seasons previous camp and/or children’s program experience, experience in leading science or nature programs, excellent communication and management skills with children and adults, and a love of nature and outdoor adventures. Current driver’s license and minimum 2 years driving experience. Current First Aid and CPR certification is required; classes are available through the Recreation Department. Employment depends upon successful completion of CORI and SORI.
