Do you have a passion for the wonders of the natural world? Put your passion into practice! Join North Branch Nature Center as a Vermont Housing and Conservation Board Americorps member and inspire, teach, and play with children ages 4 to 12 by co-leading our summer camp programs. The dates of this position are May 26 through August 21, 2026.

Summary

Share your love for nature and the outdoors with children. Join North Branch Nature Center in inspiring and teaching children in grades preschool through seventh about the wonders of nature through our summer camp programs in the fields, forests, waters, and woods of Vermont. Lead group games, arts and crafts, sensory awareness activities, storytelling, and singing. Teach lessons in natural history and field studies. Work as a team member to promote a nature- and place-based approach to learning.

The goal of the Summer Nature Camp Instructor position is to help us provide experiential and informational programs through our summer camp program.

This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. VHCB AmeriCorps is a national service program that places members with non-profit housing or land and energy conservation organizations around the state. Service to be performed primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Service will require frequent hikes over uneven and steep terrain. NBNC expects all members/staff/interns to uphold the organization’s commitment to community education and best practices in nature based learning. Position begins May 26 and ends August 21, 2026. This position is Quarter Time: Requires 460 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 9 weeks.

Compensation Information

Member will receive a living allowance of $8,074 (pre-tax). Member will receive an education award of $1,956.35 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.
