Summer Field School Supervisor

The Field School Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safety and well-being of all camp staff and participants during their time with us at field school.  The Field School Supervisor communicates and solves problems calmly and respectfully with parents, field school staff, instructors, health care coordinators, the caterer, and field school facilities staff.  The Field School Supervisor liaisons with the home office to ensure a smooth transition of field school paperwork, materials, and logistical details to camp and will use this information to oversee high-quality logistical implementation by all Academy support staff. 

2022 FIELD SCHOOL SEASON

• Pre-Season Prep: Zoom meetings within a month prior to field school – 1-2 prep meetings with home office and leading 1-2 staff meetings
• The Field School Supervisor will live on-site at Camp Krislund & Conference Center (Madisonburg, PA – Centre County) for the full summer (10 weeks); start date June 6, end date August 12 (open to discussion on starting earlier or leaving later).
• Work up to 40 hours one week before field schools, 2.5 full weeks in between field schools, and one week after field school at the Academy’s home office in Lock Haven, PA (20 minutes from Camp Krislund)
• Field School Weeks (Mon-Sat): PA Bucktails – June 13-18, PA Bass – June 20-25, Brookies – July 18-23, Gobblers – July 25-30, Ursids – August 1-6

QUALIFICATIONS

The Field School Supervisor will be thoroughly committed to these ideals.  The applicant should also be committed to team work, having fun and being passionate about supporting the next generation of conservation leaders!  Personal attributes of the Field School Manager include:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moderate supervision, agile, and able to pivot quickly

• Successful working in an independent and team environment
• Ability to develop strong relationships with diverse groups of people
• Comfortability in interacting with youth aged 14-17
• Overall knowledge of safety precautions

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Senior or college graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Minimum of two years of summer camp experience with at least one year in a leadership role.
• Experience working with teens.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

If offered the position, you must complete and/or provide current copies of the following prior to hiring:

• PA State Police Request Criminal Records Check (Act 34)
• PA Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
• Federal Criminal History Background Check
• Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Mandated and Permissive Reporting in Pennsylvania Online Training
• Current CPR and First Aid Certificates *Can acquire upon accepting position.

WILDLIFE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY OVERVIEW
The Wildlife Leadership Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to engage and empower high school age youth to become Conservation Ambassadors to ensure a sustained wildlife, fisheries and natural resource legacy for future generations. This Academy experience begins with our Conservation Ambassador training for high school students, which includes attending rigorous 5-day residential summer field schools taught by leading natural resource professionals that focus on wildlife/fisheries conservation, as well as leadership skills development. Equipped with knowledge and skills, through the next year, students serve as Conservation Ambassadors in their communities, giving back through education, service, media engagement, the creative arts and outdoor mentorship. As students grow with the Academy, they explore career possibilities via professional conferences and college visit days, gain work experience via our summer field schools, and engage in professional development through our Academy Alumni Network.
