Summary
TIME COMMITMENT: JUNE 9 - AUGUST 29, 2025
This full-time seasonal position includes one week of staff training (June 9-13), eleven weeks of summer camp (June 16-August 29), and an optional three days of camp clean up (September 2-4).
Camps run from 8:30am-3:30pm on weekdays followed by after care until 5:30pm. Educators typically work 8:00am-4:00pm but may be scheduled from 9:45am-5:45pm on select weeks throughout the summer. Opportunities for planning and prep will be built into the weekly schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility of this position is the planning and delivery of experiential nature programs for 4-13 year old campers. Environmental educators are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of the children in their care and are expected to facilitate a welcoming environment that is safe, inclusive, and fun for all participants. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Independently supervise a small group of children during their camp session.
- Design and lead hands-on activities that take into account camper ages, interests, and abilities.
- Assess group dynamics and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Collaborate with other staff to create a cohesive camp community.
- Maintain a reliable attendance record throughout the summer.
Ideal candidates will be able to manage a full-time weekly schedule, work well in a team environment, communicate effectively with others, and represent ALNC in a professional manner. Flexibility, initiative, the ability to problem solve, and a sense of humor are a must.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 18 years of age and have completed high school or its equivalent.
- Vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR (training will be provided for those who need it).
- Must pass a child care background check and fingerprint screen.
- Experience working with and supporting youth socially, emotionally, and behaviorally, preferably in small group settings.
- Interest in developing and leading a variety of enriching camp activities.
- Ability to develop rapport with campers of all ages and backgrounds.
- Comfortable making quick decisions in response to changing circumstances.
- Ability to maintain sight and sound supervision of campers at all times.
- Willingness to work outside in all summer weather conditions.
- Preferred: clean driving record and willingness to drive a 15 passenger van.

Compensation Information
Base pay: $17.00/hour. Employees receive one paid holiday (July 4) and the ability to request up to five days of unpaid time off during the summer.
