Summary
A New Leaf’s camps at Pip and Pickles Farm offer a fun-packed summer inspired by our connection to living organisms. Inviting the campers to explore nature through the lens of science and sustainability, to exercise the body by way of hiking, climbing, yoga, and sports, and to express the mind through art, music, writing, and handwork.
We are looking for energetic experienced camp educators who enjoy working with children outdoors. On our farm, we have a herd of goats, a flock of chickens, a forest and pond, a large organic garden, STEM studio, and Creative Arts workshop which help enrich the day-to-day life at camp.
The ideal candidates would have a genuine interest in nature and being outdoors with children. They would have the ability to work within a team and the physical ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions while participating in strenuous activities such as hiking, gardening, sports, and other games. They would also be creative in arts and theater and STEM.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Create a positive and fun environment that encourages the children to participate and explore in an exciting way. Build friendly relationships with campers with the ability to still be a leader. Assist campers in making friendships and solving conflicts.
- Flexibility and collaborative skills to lead campers with the help of other counselors and Pip and Pickles Farm faculty.
- Comfortable with campers in mixed-age groups ranging from 3 - 16 years old.
- Ensure the safety of campers and staff by closely following camp rules.
- Setting up materials at the start of the day and cleaning spaces at the end of the day.
- Must commit to all 7 weeks of orientation and sessions May 30 - July 21, 2023.
- Must be fully available for camp staff training week (May 30 - June 2) and both sessions of camps (June 5th - June 23rd and July 3rd - July 21st )
- No Camp sessions held the week of June 26th - 30th and July 4th.
- Required Minimum Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience teaching in a classroom setting, at a summer camp, youth leadership position, or nature education program.
- First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to complete before beginning of camp
Desirable Education and Experience:
- Teaching Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in education, agriculture, environmental science, or related field
Other Requirements:
- Must be 18 years old
- Reliable daily transportation.
- Unrelated (non-family) references
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and also work without direct supervision.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations calmly and follow protocols.
- Ability to document activities with good photographs that will be shared with the families at the end of each camp week.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Able and willing comply with practices mandated by Pip and Pickles Farm.
Compensation Information
Salary $15.00 - $20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
