Position Description
The Summer Camp Pre-school Group Leader reports to the Program Coordinator and will primarily work with the half-day summer day camp program, children ages 4-5). This includes teaching camp groups each week, assisting with the development of curriculum, and assisting with the supervision of interns and volunteers. During non-camp weeks, the Group Leader may choose to take time off or work. If working, group leader will assist with other educational programming, prep for upcoming camp weeks, assist with general facility and grounds upkeep, and other tasks assigned by the Program Coordinator or Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead educator for half-day camp group each week (ages 4-5), up to 15 children per group
- Assist in curriculum development
- Assist with general management of the camp program, including helping with check-in and check-out, supervise interns and volunteers.
- General upkeep of the facilities, including general cleaning and habitat maintenance as needed
- Other tasks as assigned and needed.
- Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of college, preferably working towards a degree in education, environmental education, or related field
- Knowledge of natural history and environmental topics
- Knowledge of, desire to work with, and experience working with preschool children
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Current CPR & First Aid Certification
- Ability to pass a criminal background and sex offender check

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee will be required stand for extended periods of time while leading youth, and must be able to hike on uneven and hilly terrain continuously for up to five miles during the summer heat and humidity. The employee will also be expected to sit and perform extensive keyboard work for curriculum development and parent communication. The employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, run or climb as part of duties leading youth.
Compensation and Benefits
This position is for a part-time, seasonal employee. Regular schedule will be 20 hours a week, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Compensation ranges from $12-15/hour, depending on experience.
