Summary
SUMMARY
We’re seeking individuals with experience working with children in an outdoor setting, who are dedicated to connecting children with nature. When hiring we look for creative, fun and high-energy individuals to become Summer Camp Instructors. Summer Camp Instructors work in pairs with primarily children ages 6 to 12.
Honey Hollow’s summer camp runs for 9-10 weeks throughout June-August. There is a two-week break around the 4th of July holiday. Each week is a different environmental theme. Counselors will receive training about each week and how Honey Hollow Nature Center runs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Be an educator for a camp group each week (ages 6-12)
- Groups will have up to 12 children per week
Co-lead the half-day preschool camp group (ages 4-6) as needed
Assist with general management of the camp program
- Check- in/out of campers
- Supervising lunch and free time
- Oversee interns and volunteers
Maintain the Facilities for camp
- General cleaning
- Organizing spaces
- Habitat maintenance as needed
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 1 year of college, preferably working towards a degree in education, environmental education, or related field
Knowledge of natural history and environmental topics
Knowledge and experience working with children, or desire to work with them, from preschool through high school)
Can work in a team setting
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Current CPR & First Aid Certification (will train)
Ability to pass a criminal background and sex offender check
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee will be required stand for extended periods of time while leading youth, and must be able to hike on uneven and hilly terrain continuously for up to five miles during the summer heat and humidity. The employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, run or climb as part of duties leading youth.

Compensation Information
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is for a full-time, seasonal employee. Regular schedule will be 40 hours a week, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Compensation ranges from $15-17/hour, depending on experience.
