Duties and responsibilities include working with diverse audiences, ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens, to develop, promote and lead programs and activities.

Summary

Description: 
Assist in planning, scheduling, organizing and conducting a wide variety of environmental, nature and outdoor recreational programs associated with Smyrna Parks & Recreation Department and the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center (SOAC).  Duties and responsibilities include working with diverse audiences, ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens, to develop, promote and lead programs and activities and assisting the SOAC Manager and Program Coordinator with the daily operation and general monitoring of the SOAC facility and patrons during business hours. Extra hours available in the work week would also allow this position to facilitate Adventure Zone room operations at the SOAC. Reports to the Program Specialist Coordinator and communicates daily with Program Specialists.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate or lead programs/camps/events, indoors and out, while utilizing the resources of parks within the system
  • Assist with outreach initiatives to promote and drive traffic to the SOAC and to encourage community participation in SOAC programs
  • Facilitate and monitor independent recreation usage in Adventure Zones (climbing wall area)
  • Assist and occasionally lead programs and guide activities for groups visiting SOAC outside of regular business hours (camps, lock-ins, special events, etc.)
  • Assist with production of large events conducted by Smyrna Parks and Town of Smyrna
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by SOAC Manager
  • Assists with opening and closing the camp activity room; greets campers and parents
  • Provides information/assistance to customers regarding facility services and program activities, procedures, fees, or other issues; distributes forms/documentation as requested
  • Responds to routine questions, complaints or requests for service; initiates problem resolution
  • Attends all staff meetings, workshops and trainings as required
  • Performs general housekeeping to ensure the facility is clean and neat to the public; monitors restrooms and exhibits; reports any malfunctioning equipment to supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License
  • Familiarity with computers as needed for office work; proficient in Google Workspace
  • Current CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Must be comfortable working at a height of 20 or more feet and willing to learn belay and rope safety techniques (properly fit climbing equipment on guests and familiarize them to the safety equipment they will be using, conduct safety demonstrations for guests (physically climb the rock wall), and provide inspections of the climbing course and safety equipment)
  • College coursework with an emphasis in parks and recreation, biology, education, natural science, natural history, environmental education, environmental science, or related field preferred.

Compensation Information

Hiring Pay: $14.63/hour

This is a SEASONAL position running May - August and is not eligible for benefits however this position is eligible for any market adjustments approved in the annual budget.
