Summer 2026 – Summer Camp Environmental Education Internship for High School Students
Help inspire the next generation of environmental stewards by teaching and exploring with campers at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park’s Summer Camp! Assist in delivering hands-on environmental education, facilitating outdoor experiences, and developing relationships with campers in a FUN summer camp environment, all while earning student service learning hours. Interns must be available to work at least 6 weeks over the summer, between June 22nd and August 21st, in addition to training prior to camp opening.

AMM Overview
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park’s mission is to educate youth and adults about the Annapolis area's rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits, and community events. During the summer, AMM runs a popular 9-week summer camp program for over 500 local youth and provides field trip experiences for visiting groups. Our summer programming has students exploring life around the Bay and maritime heritage through the lens of environmental science, social studies, art, and recreation. Our summer internship program offers great experience for students interested in any of these fields of study: education, environmental studies, science, communication, or outdoor recreation. Interns will receive hands-on training and experience with the fundamentals of environmental education best practices, lesson plan creation, and program facilitation. Interns will assist in the facilitation of programs for summer camp and visiting groups.

Internship Responsibilities
• Assist with supervision and group management of up to 18 campers with a team of 2-3 counselors, including a teacher, college intern, and other volunteers
• Observe and assist fellow instructors with lessons focusing on environmental studies, ecology, art, and recreation
• Assist with set-up and clean-up from daily camp activities
• Organize and lead games, nature exploration, and “down-time” activities
• Plan and lead at least one environmental education lesson during the summer - Interns will receive training in writing objectives, adapting existing resources, and using best practices in outdoor classroom management - Interns will receive constructive feedback after their lesson
• Assist campers while kayaking - Training is provided
• Assist with aquarium and animal care
 

Intern Qualifications
• Must enjoy working with children
• Energetic, enthusiastic, flexible, and overall positive attitude
• Willingness to work outside in summer conditions
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with children and adults
