CuriOdyssey is seeking Camp Leaders to inspire love for science and curiosity about the world for Camp CuriOdyssey campers this summer. We have camp themes focusing on a range of STEAM topics from art, engineering, animals, nature, and the ocean. During the 10 weeks of camp you will work with campers from preK through the 4th grade.

Summary

Position Overview

Camp CuriOdyssey is supported by a team of Directors, Leaders, Inclusion Assistant, and Leaders-in-Training, reporting to the Associate Director of Education. Camp CuriOdyssey’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/animals, and math) focus is reflected in a robust curriculum developed around the following Camp themes: Gadgets and Gizmos, Art Inventors, Junior Keepers, Nature Quest, Museum Medley, and Ocean Adventure.

Camp Leaders, in partnership with and under the guidance of Camp Directors, will deliver our robust curriculum for our TK/Kindergarten to fourth-grade campers, support teen volunteer “Leaders in Training,” and ensure that the camp environment is engaging, fun, and safe. Leaders serve as role models for campers, establish a foundation of knowledge, model inquiry, and collaborate with campers, learning together. For the summer of 2024, we seek 12–14 Leader positions to support the Camp themes referenced above.

Primary Responsibilities

Camp Leaders work with campers, grades TK through fourth, in one of CuriOdyssey’s science camp themes including physical and life sciences, engineering, art, and nature-based learning.

  • Provide support to other camp groups as needed.

Desired Qualities

  • Commitment to the mission of CuriOdyssey and science/environmental education.
  • Creative, curious, and compassionate approach to facilitating positive learning experiences for children.
  • Respect for children as both learners and holders of knowledge, recognition that learning is a process, not a product, commitment to positive behavior management, and ensuring the learning process is engaging, fun, and driven by the individual camper.
  • Experience and expertise working with youth and a basic understanding of life, earth, and/or physical science.
  • Ability to maintain a growth mindset and positive attitude when navigating new or challenging experiences
  • Required: must be at least a rising senior in high school or older. If 18 years old or older, a background check must be completed and cleared.
