Summary
Description: The Foss waterway seaport is looking for (4) part-time educators to join our staff. The Foss Waterway Seaport will be hosting 7th grade science students from Tacoma Public Schools during May-June. Students will participate in hands on science activities on topics including plankton tows, the impact of maritime trade on the ecosystem, and ecology. There will be multiple rotations throughout the Foss Waterway Seaport museum, Seaport docks, and onboard the tall ship the Lady Washington. Training will be provided on site.
The following days are available for staff to work. Employees are NOT required to work all days.
Training: April 28, April 29
Week 1: May 2,3,5,6
Week 2: May 9,10
Week 3: May 16,17,19,20
Week 4: May 23,26,27
Week 5: May 31, June 2, June 3
Week 6: June 9
Week 7: June 14, 16,17
Desired Qualifications:
Background in history. cultural museum studies or education is preferred or 2 years of equivalent work experience
Commitment to Diversity, Equity and inclusion studies,
Demonstrates an understanding of how to engage children, adults, families, schools, teachers, and the general museum visitor
The ability to communicate science terms and theories effectively to school aged children.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to clearly communicate information effectively and persuasively.
Positive attitude towards change and a desire to learn and apply new methodologies and systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to remain in both seated and standing position for up to 8 hours a day. Able to lift up to 25 lbs. Comfortable working on and around boats, and in inclement weather outdoors.
