Do you want to spend a summer in the sagebrush steppe, providing quality service, engaging interpretive programs, and fun environmental education activities to the public at City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park? Join the team!

Title: Seasonal Ranger - Visitor Services – Interpretation and Education

Supervisor: Park Ranger – Visitor Services

Base Wage: $14.00 per hour

Start: May 1, 2022 

End: September 30, 2022 

Schedule: 40-hour weeks, generally 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., expect to work weekends and some holidays 

Note: This is a 5-month position with flexible start and end date.

Duties:

  • Provide customer service, information, and orientation to visitors by answering phone calls and talking with visitors at the front desk
  • Provide interpretive programs and environmental education to school field trips
  • Develop original content for social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram)
  • Learn Aspira One reservation system to assist with camping reservations, perform basic accounting, and close financial shifts at the close of the day
  • Operate Store Manager program to sell gift shop merchandise
  • Assist the Visitor Services Ranger with special projects and events such as the Memorial Day California Trail Reenactment weekend, Girl Scouts Love State Parks, Junior Ranger Saturdays, and more!

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years old or older
  • High School Diploma
  • Driver’s License
  • Ability to provide programs to large, diverse groups of people
  • Able to communicate effectively and respectfully with the public and coworkers
  • Ability to manage money with accuracy
  • Competent with various social media platforms and other computer programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher

 

Desired Skills and Certifications:

  • Experience in interpretation and/or environmental education
  • The desired candidate will take initiative, be able to work well alone and with others, and is passionate about connecting people to parks

No housing is provided, but in addition to wage, the park offers seasonal employees free camping, showers, laundry facility, refrigerator space, and Wi-Fi in maintenance shop.
