Sea Grant Professional I/Marine Extension Associate – Aquaculture HUB Coordinator

The Sea Grant Professional I will work with members of the MET, the Hub Steering committee, and collaborators to perform the following duties associated with the Aquaculture Hub and performing relevant extension work:

• Maintain and strengthen the network of the Maine Aquaculture Hub.
• Contribute to and organize the Steering Committee such that the Steering Committee can advise on activities of the Hub.
• Engage and support farmers through site visits, local/regional convening and other networking activities as appropriate.
• Coordinate and facilitate events to strengthen the Hub network.
• Implement aquaculture education and outreach needs identified by Hub participants.
• Strengthen and diversify the training program ‘Aquaculture in Shared Waters’ and other training events as appropriate.
• Pursue relevant extension activities as determined by the Professional and supervisors.  This may include participating or leading efforts to secure extramural funding, and participation in applied aquaculture-related research.

The Professional will also conduct related advisory activities in the interest of sustainable use and development of the region’s marine and coastal resources, with particular emphasis on aquaculture. 

The typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $50,000 to $55,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Required:

• B.S. or B.A. in marine aquaculture or related field.
• Facilitation and convening expertise.
• Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a group, but also as a self-starter, working sometimes with significant independence.
• Computer proficiency.
• Strong skills in written and oral communication, comfort in working both in groups and in a one-on-one setting.
• Ability to travel extensively, normally requiring a valid driver’s license.
• Comfort and skill working in outdoor environments, including aboard marine vessels.

Preferred:

• An advanced degree or five years of applied research, outreach or community development experience in these fields.
• Significant experience in educational programming and project coordination.
• Experience with economic development.
• Experience as an industry collaborator or direct experience with aquaculture or fishing industries.
