NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time science writer to provide their scientific and technical expertise in writing and publishing communications products for the Long Island Sound Study (LISS).

Summary

What You Will Do
As a science writer for NEIWPCC, your work will be heavily geared towards implementing the LISS Communications, Outreach, and Engagement (COE) Plan. You will write articles and feature projects on LISS’s online communications channels, assist with the Living Shoreline Project’s interactive map and webpages, perform website updates, support the development of public engagement content, drafting and coordinating social media content, assist with photography and videography initiatives, and provide scientific, technical, and programmatic communications support on various initiatives. You will participate in occasional site visits, programmatic meetings, conferences, and summits. You will also directly oversee and manage the work of other communications team members and help to shape future communications work for the LISS program.

What You Will Bring / Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a skilled writer who is passionate about communicating how science and management can help sustain and protect urban waterways from emerging threats. Ideally, the candidate will have a degree in marine environmental science or policy, engineering, English, journalism, communications, or related field; with professional experience in the development of outreach materials, as well as website and print publication design. The candidate will be reliable, have a strong attention to detail, and able to effectively establish working relationships with scientists and stakeholders. A proven ability to construct scientifically valid and informative communications materials, the ability to shoot and edit photos and videos, and experience with WordPress is desired. Candidates with alternative qualifications or who have taken a less traditional career path may be considered if an aptitude for success and a strong willingness to learn is clearly apparent.
