Summary
Science Outreach & Stewardship VISTA
Science Moab is currently seeking a yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA position.
Starting date options: July 17, 2023 or August 14, 2023

The Science Outreach and Stewardship VISTA will build the capacity of two of Science Moab’s programs: Science Certified (which trains local recreation guides in science and science communication) and Outreach (which offers free, accessible science education to community members of and visitors to southeastern Utah through a variety of media platforms and live events). The VISTA will strengthen both programs by recruiting program participants; developing and evaluating programming; coordinating and promoting live events; overseeing website, graphic design, and social media projects; and fundraising.
With a great degree of independence, this position is dynamic, strategic, and creative, offering the unique opportunity to shape a popular local nonprofit for years to come.
Experience: Program management/support; Experience in community education or teaching; Public speaking; Graphic design, including Adobe Creative Suite; Web design and maintenance; Undergraduate degree or equivalent skills and experience
Qualities: Dependable, organized, resourceful; self-directed and self-motivated; strong writing and editing skills; passion for Science Moab’s mission and programs; ability to help enact Science Moab’s vision and values in a clear, engaging, and inspirational way.

Compensation Information
AmeriCorps VISTA Position: $16,000 stipend + $6,000 education award
VISTAs receive an annual salary of about $16,000, as well as benefits including: relocation and settling-in stipends; a healthcare allowance; paid sick and vacation leave; childcare; federal loan forbearance or deferment; and a roughly $6,000 Segal Education Award for education costs including federal loans.
