Summary

Embark on an exhilarating journey as the next School Programs Manager (SPM) at the Northwest Maritime Center. While leading a seasonal school programs team, the SPM crafts captivating program content and fosters deep connections with teachers, community partners, and school administrators to create transformative maritime experiences. Together, we'll fill our campuses and boats with eager students who will depart with a profound understanding of why we believe “The sea is the most powerful teacher we know”! 

 

We offer a variety of hands-on learning opportunities for schools and student groups, ranging from day programs to overnight voyages. These programs include Salish Sea Expeditions, which are multi-day overnight science and sailing programs aboard the Schooner Zodiac; Puget Sound Adventures, which are single-day field trips aboard our floating science classroom, the Admiral Jack; and our local multi-day program, Maritime Discovery which introduces students to marine science, maritime skills and maritime trades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4 years of experiential education program delivery with increased management responsibility over that time which included budget management and staff hiring & training
  • Commitment to a collaborative, solution-oriented approach to program development.  This includes a willingness to envision, develop, and implement equity-driven, student-centered, maritime-focused programming
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • foster and sustain effective and efficient program and people operational systems
    • be highly organized, with the flexibility and energy to thrive in a dynamic environment
    • take initiative and ask for help 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test 
  • Current First Aid & CPR (or training plan)

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Moves maritime-related gear weighing up to 50 lbs to and from vehicles and boats
  • During the programming season, ascends/descends ladders in and around boats
  • Traverses uneven terrain and steep inclines to access boats
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions

 

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE

  • Position will require mostly onsite work; however, some work may be done remotely in the off-season. Some work may be done on water vessels of varying sizes
  • Main NWMC Offices are located at 431 Water St., Port Townsend, WA 98368
  • Position is full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Reports to: Deputy Program Director

 

Compensation Information

WAGE RANGE & BENEFITS

  • $27 - $30 per hour, non-exempt or exempt
  • 100% company paid Health, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance + contributions to HSA account
  • Matching contributions to a SIMPLE IRA retirement fund after 1 year of employment
  • Paid time off: accrues 2 weeks of vacation per year, 17 paid holidays in a calendar year, & 1 hour of sick time accrued per every 25 hours worked
