Summary
The School and Teacher Partnerships Specialist facilitates wildlife- and science-based learning in English and Spanish, through implementation of educational programs and engagement with students and teachers at the Zoo and in the community. This position supports the Conservation Engagement and Learning Department’s strategic direction focusing on engaging priority growth audiences (including teens; neighbors; people with disabilities; and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) in wildlife conservation learning and action.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Priority 1 – Program Facilitation
- Facilitates science and conservation learning in English and/or Spanish through dynamic implementation of pre-written programs for youth, generally in upper elementary, middle and high school grades.
- Supports teacher professional learning experiences at Denver Zoo, community/school locations, or at local Denver Zoo field conservations sites.
- Adapt curricula to changing circumstances, when necessary; flexibility to alter teaching style, level, or method to best meet the needs of participants.
- Handle live ambassador animals and drive Denver Zoo vehicles.
- Support implementation of other Conservation Engagement and Learning programs, including children and family programs, day camps, virtual, and public programs as needed.
Priority 2 – Communication
- Provide excellent communication in English and Spanish; communicate in clear language and adjust use of language to participants’ needs.
- Model outstanding customer service and engagement with program participants, external partners, internal partners and guests.
- Support written communications and materials in English and Spanish.
- Proactively communicate with department and program leaders about program needs and concerns; regularly check and communicate about varied and changing teaching schedules.
- Represent Denver Zoo to the community in a professional and positive manner.
Priority 3 – Program Preparation, Development and Support
- Collaborate with the School and Teacher Partnerships Coordinator, Manager, and departmental teams to prepare, develop and evaluate new and existing school and teacher programs.
- Prepare, maintain and clean-up of program materials and assist with material sourcing and purchases.
- Collect and enter program data as needed including program attendance and demographic data.
- Follow departmental program development processes rooted in outcomes-based design, as part of program development and curriculum writing teams.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of a high school degree or equivalent required, 2-year degree preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience in delivering environmental education or conservation programs is required.
- Experience implementing and developing programs in both formal and informal educational settings, including working with or around live animals is preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
- Fluency in written and verbal communications in English and Spanish.
- Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills particularly with school age children, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.
- Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt content depth and level of programs depending on the age and abilities of program audiences.
- Requires the ability to embrace, support, and integrate Denver Zoo’s philosophies to promote and demonstrate its commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.

Compensation Information
Range for this position is $19.14-$22.49 (hourly).
