Summary
Located at the base of Sauratown Mountain, just 30 minutes north of Winston-Salem, Camp Hanes offers 400 acres of forest, two lakes, multiple streams, a plethora of outdoor activities, and a short drive to two different state parks. From archery to hiking, water ecology to zip-lining, you are sure to learn new skills and make lifelong friends.
Program Insturctors will assist to implement science based curriculum, and help facilitate conference group activities. Instructors will gain greater knowledge and skills of camp operation during the shoulder seasons and improve their teaching ability with elementary and middle school age youth. Sometime will also be spent helping facilitate weekend groups with adults and families. We aim to make trips both fun and educational through ecology classes, evening activities, group games, and teambuilding activities. Staff will also assist with running meals, cleaning, and other maintenance as required and do not stay in the cabin with groups, but are responsible for helping host and oversee the group’s needs while at camp.
We are looking for team members who are flexible, team oriented and demonstrate the YMCA Character development traits of caring, honest, respect, responsibility, and faith.
This is a full-time, seasonal position at YMCA Camp Hanes, from March thru May with potential for a summer position. This position does require weekend work. Housing is included and meals are provided while guests are on site. Staff will have housing on site, ropes training, and curriculum training before groups arrive.
BA/BS Degree preferred or equal job experience.
Experience in customer service and creating positive experiences with guest.
Skills/experience in working with youth.- Required
Comfortable performing skills in an outdoor environment for a majority of the day.
Excellent communication skills while working with peers and guest.
Energetic, mission driven, team oriented individual- Required
Must be able to lift 25 pounds and traverse uneven terrain. - Required

Compensation Information
$400-$425 per week compensation
Ropes training on zipline, belay, and other elements
Not required to stay in cabins with kids
