The Program Director is a key player within the organization who will be responsible for designing and delivering a variety of youth and adult programs including in-school, afterschool, summer camp outreach, scout badges, public tree walks, arboretum tours, and garden club outreach. The Program Director will perform their duties in concert with the Horticulture team and Community Engagement Coordinator and reports to the Executive Director.

Summary

Program Director Duties:

  • Create and lead dynamic, engaging, and successful programming for all ages
  • Manage program logistics including scheduling, planning, implementing, and evaluating
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, community centers, and other stakeholders
  • Evaluate programs and utilize results to improve future programs
  • Report on annual program engagement and student learning
  • Manage annual public program days for NTC’s accredited arboreta

Qualifications:

  • College degree in environmental education or related field preferred
  • At least 3 years of environmental education experience working with K-12 audiences
  • Experience in a supervisory or coordinator role
  • Forest ecosystem and urban tree experience
  • Curriculum design and program evaluation experience
  • Comfortable working with diverse audiences (age, race, gender, language, physical ability, neurodivergence, etc.)
  • Experience working with youth on the Autism spectrum preferred
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus
  • Climate change communication experience preferred
  • Strong self-initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to coordinate, maintain, and organize calendars, tasks, and records
  • Professional communication skills with all constituents including teachers, students, administrators, and community members

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be passionate about urban forests and community engagement
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and organizational skills
  • Computer savvy (MicrosoftSuite, Google Workspace, and data management software)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Attend all-staff meetings and other meetings as needed
  • Some weekend and evening hours may be required
  • Provide support at annual special events and fundraisers
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Director
