As part of the programming team of the Outdoor Programs Office (OPO), the Program Coordinator delivers outdoor programming and assists in providing high-quality advising to students, including students in the Dartmouth Outing Club. The position is particularly focused on programming ensuring it serves Dartmouth’s educational mission. In addition, the Program Coordinator manages various aspects of the administrative work necessary to support programming. This position requires technical expertise climbing skill on both rock and ice.

Summary

Required Skills: 

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in outdoor program delivery
  • Experience with camping and extended outdoor stays
  • Technical expertise in climbing and mountain sports
  • Ability to drive a van under College Vehicle Policy
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness and to serving the needs of a diverse population
  • Ability to apply sound problem-solving skills and work independently
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and others Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort and facility in technological platforms, including MS Office & Google Suite products and database management systems; able to quickly adapt to new systems
  • Current Wilderness First Responder certification (or above) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Physical fitness and skills necessary to lead outdoor activities
  • Ability to be on-call during evenings and weekends for emergency management. Frequently available after hours for events, meetings, and programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education, especially in roles involving student advising
  • Outdoor instruction certifications, such as: Rock climbing certifications, such as AMGA Single Pitch Instructor or above Paddling certifications, such as:
    • Swift water rescue
    • ACA Level 3 (river/flatwater) or Levels 4 or 5 (whitewater) in a particular paddling discipline
  • Avalanche safety certifications, such as a Level 1 Pro or above from an AAA-certified training program

 

Compensation Information

Estimated salary $50,000-$60,000 per year. Benefits-eligible position including but not limited to medical, dental, and retirement.
