Join us lakeside in the Deschutes National Forest as we create hands-on outdoor experiences that inspire growth, connection, and curiosity in youth. In spring and fall, we welcome local 5th and 6th graders for overnight Outdoor School filled with experiential science, team building, recreation, and campfires. During summer, we host campers ages 8–13 for week-long sessions featuring swimming, crafts, sports, and lively evening programs like campfires and a carnival. We’re looking for staff who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are excited to support youth development through mentored outdoor adventures

Summary

Program Coordinator Position Overview: 

The Program Coordinator (PC) at Camp Tamarack plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of day-to-day programming and the effective management of instructors, counselors and campers. The PC works in collaboration with our Programs Team to deliver inclusive and engaging programming for both staff and campers. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills and the ability to problem solve and adapt effectively.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Work 40-45 hours per week on a Sunday-Thursday or Monday-Friday schedule, including 1-2 evenings per week.
  • Manage a team of 4-5 Instructors, providing daily mentorship, feedback and support.
  • Plan, prep, and execute high quality camp programming for all program participants including staff, high school counselors, visiting classroom teachers and parents, and youth campers.
  • Collaborate in the design and delivery of training and professional development for Instructors.
  • Assist with daily site set-up and cleaning.
  • Assist with transportation of participants to and from camp (15-passenger van driver training provided).
Required Skills
  • High school degree.
  • Experience leading a team including training, delivering feedback and providing daily support.
  • Experience planning, preparing and facilitating environmental education or youth camp programming.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including positive communication, flexibility, dependability and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to problem solve and address issues quickly in a calm and effective manner.
  • Ability to provide waterfront supervision as a certified lifeguard (training provided).
  • Ability to uphold risk management protocols related to outdoor activities (training provided).
  • Ability to lead physically demanding outdoor activities and work long hours in all weather conditions.

Preferred Skills

  • College degree in a related field.
  • Background or certifications in environmental education, science or outdoor leadership.
  • Experience facilitating outdoor education or leadership programming for groups of 150+ participants.
  • Medical certifications such as Wilderness First Aid or First Responder, CPR, Lifeguard.
  • Proficiency in the Spanish language.
Season Dates
  • Spring Outdoor School: April 8th-June 3rd
  • Summer Camp: June 15th-August 28th
  • Fall Outdoor School: September 14th-October 28th

Compensation Information

  • $875 - $923 weekly salary, paid monthly
  • On-site housing in shared staff quarters provided for the full employment season.
  • Internet, utilities and laundry facilities provided on-site.
  • All meals provided when programming is taking place.
  • Paid Sick or Sad Time - 1 paid day earned for each session (1 for the Spring, 1 for the Summer, and 1 for the Fall).
  • Paid Time Off - 1 paid day earned for each session (1 for the Spring, 1 for the Summer, and 1 for the Fall).
