Klamath Outdoor Science School is a non-profit organization based in Klamath Falls, OR. We are currently seeking a Program Coordinator to assist with organizing and implementing residential programs, day programs, and summer camps. Much work can be completed from home, especially during the winter months, but this position also requires travel to field sites in the Klamath Basin and Rogue Valley regions of southern Oregon.

Summary

Klamath Outdoor Science School is a non-profit organization based in Klamath Falls, OR. We are currently seeking a Program Coordinator to assist with organizing and implementing residential programs, day programs, and summer camps. Much work can be completed from home, especially during the winter months, but this position also requires travel to field sites in the Klamath Basin and Rogue Valley regions of southern Oregon.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to: 
    • establish program dates and offerings
    • identify and actively recruit school and community clients for all programs, market programs to target audiences
    • schedule field trips, overnight programs, summer camps, and other programs
  • Communicate with school administrators, teachers, parents, and other potential clients/partners to answer questions about KOSS.
  • Continue developing curriculum that aligns with NGSS and state standards.
  • Teach day and overnight programs as needed. This will include residential outdoor school and summer programs at the KOSS camp and day programs at field sites in the Klamath Basin and Rogue Valley.
  • Assist with scheduling staff for programs in a manner that maintains appropriate instructor-student ratios and provides all staff with equal work opportunities.
  • Support KOSS in pursuing equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and communications with other outdoor schools, community organizations, government agencies, ESD’s, school districts, schools, and teachers.
  • Attend events and meetings to promote KOSS offerings and increase our visibility in the community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in an administrative role
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people and groups
  • Background in environmental science, education, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an outdoor/environmental education program
  • Experience with lesson planning and writing curriculum
  • Experience teaching K-12 students
  • Knowledge of natural and cultural resources of Southern Oregon
  • Knowledge of Oregon educational standards and Next Generation Science Standards

Working Conditions:

  • Much work can be accomplished from a home office. KOSS can provide the Program Coordinator with a work laptop if desired.
  • When teaching, this position requires long periods of standing, walking, and hiking. Certain activities may require bending, crouching, kneeling, etc.
  • The residential camp is rustic, with some uneven terrain, wooded trails, and variable weather conditions. The bathrooms and dining areas are enclosed and heated. Other park locations have variable conditions and amenities. Programs are held outdoors in all weather conditions unless deemed unsafe for students/instructors.
  • If the Program Coordinator is on site during residential programs, housing and most meals are provided. Housing is available on weekends, and the kitchen will remain open for staff use. 

Additional Requirements:

  • First Aid/CPR certification 
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle liability insurance

Compensation Information

$22.50/hr plus some mileage reimbursement
