The Program Communications Associate helps tell the story of Grades of Green’s incredible student Eco-Leaders. By helping produce and refine communications, marketing and program materials like social media posts, blog posts, press releases, newsletters, graphics, videos and more, the Program Communications Associate will bring new students to Grades of Green’s programs and raise awareness of our students’ incredible work in their communities.

Summary

Location: Grades of Green, El Segundo, CA

Pay: $2636/month

Additional Pay: $4546 bonus upon program completion

Term: January 2023 - August 2023 1200 hours; 40 hours/week

 

POSITION OVERVIEW & DESCRIPTION

The Program Communications Associate helps tell the story of Grades of Green’s incredible student Eco-Leaders. By helping produce and refine communications, marketing and program materials like social media posts, blog posts, press releases, newsletters, graphics, videos and more, the Program Communications Associate will bring new students to Grades of Green’s programs and raise awareness of our students’ incredible work in their communities. The Program Communications Associate reports to the Operations Manager, works closely with the Executive Director, the Programs team and is responsible for implementing elements of Grades of Green’s internal and external communications strategies in addition to marketing and program support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing and Communications Collateral

  • Celebrate student and school stories by creating and supporting the production of the following. Work with Program staff to produce and work with the Executive Director to refine collateral. 
  • Develop Social media posts, Blog posts, Press releases, Newsletter content, Graphics, Videos, Presentations and pitch decks, Etc.
  • Collaborate with Program staff and Executive Director to produce internal and external messaging, pitch decks and branding, storyboards, templates, and program materials
  • Collaborate with Executive Director on the creation and implementation of yearlong communications strategies and marketing plans
  • Refine practices by evaluating ROIs and deliverables in each communications area
  • Translate climate/environmental research and policy into accessible media content
  • Participate in outreach events as needed

Public Relations

  • Celebrate student and school stories by creating pitches and support the development of relationships with local, national, and global news outlets 
  • Keep media kit up-to-date, adding improvements and updates 
  • Track earned media mentions
  • Keeping media list and e-blast list up-to-date 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents
  • Be 17 years old or older
  • Pass state criminal and FBI background checks, and a national check in the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Registry
  • Test negatively for tuberculosis if working with minors
  • Be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to weekly testing
  • Live in the state of California
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field including but not limited to: Environmental Science, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Journalism or English 
  • Experience working with children and/or an environmental nonprofit organization (preferred)
  • High degree of skill in verbal and written communication
  • Creative and interesting storytelling abilities
  • Goal-oriented, self-motivated
  • Experience using social media platforms to promote causes, organizations or movements preferred
  • Experience producing graphics or selecting visual creative for social media or blogs preferred- Graphic design experience desired
  • Experience using Canva and/or Indesign
  • Experience using website CMSs like WordPress or Drupal preferred
  • Skills in organizing work of self and others
  • Valid driver’s license with Reliable transportation 
  • Ability to work flexible hours and some weekends
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office 365 suite of programs
