Seeking reliable, experienced Preschool teacher to help lead small, vibrant outdoor nature based preschool program. Our half-day program helps children get outside and connect with nature! The Preschool takes advantage of all the wonderful outdoor spaces in the 362 acres Camp Chestnut Ridge has to offer, like the woods, lake, trails, farm, and equestrian center!

Summary

Job Responsibilities

  • Primary work hours 8:00am-12:30pm each day; some additional as needed for planning, set-up, etc.
  • Assist the Preschool Director in the daily operations of the Preschool program ∙ provide children with developmentally appropriate learning experiences; support and guide children’s big feelings and behavior; engage children in wondering, risk-taking, and viewing themselves as continuing learners; encourage a connection with nature through daily adventures around camp
  • Intentionally observe children’s play with the purpose of documenting and assessing children’s development as well as planning learning experiences using a child-led, emergent curriculum
  • Build relationships with Preschool families through positive and open communication
  • Notify the Preschool Director if any supplies, equipment, or facilities are in disrepair or if more supplies or equipment are needed
  • Assist in the general upkeep of Preschool program areas
  • Attend occasional Preschool events throughout the school year
  • Seek to maintain a positive, fun, professional atmosphere

Candidates must possess most of the following attributes:

  • Training in early childhood development and education
  • Experience working with children age 3-5 years of age
  • Comfortable working outdoors everyday in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable sitting on the ground and getting dirty
  • Comfortable handling insects, frogs, or other small creatures
  • Interest in further growth in naturalist studies and mentoring
  • A nurturing, loving, and creative attitude
  • Dedicated to developmentally appropriate practice and aware of developmental needs of young children
  • Observant
  • Able to crouch, dig, climb, hike, and carry up to 50lbs
  • Have reliable transportation
  • CPR/First Aid certification (we can provide training if needed)
  • Ability to pass criminal records check
  • Comfortable in Christian ministry setting

Strongly favored:

  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna
  • Familiarity and/or experience with Waldorf or Reggio Emilia education
  • Naturalist skills and knowledge
  • Certified Forest School Teacher; Experience in storytelling
  • Play a musical instrument and/or sing

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person

Compensation Information

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 28 per week
