Summary
Reporting to the Director of Early Childhood Programs, the Preschool Environmental Educator position is a non-exempt, full-time position working in our Farmergarten PreK classroom and our Wild at Art summer camp. Farmergarten is a farm and nature -based program for PreK 4s/5s. This position will be responsible for aiding the Lead Teacher teaching, managing, and developing environmental education curriculum for a classroom of 12 preschool children, as well as directing other staff in the classroom in these endeavors. The Preschool Environmental Educator will help in the preparation and enacting of daily age-appropriate lesson plans incorporating our 118-acre site and within a curriculum framework. This position will also assist in either the teaching or curriculum administration of our preschool-aged extended school and summer camp programming. This position will also be required to attend preschool staff meetings and staff development workshops as scheduled. We anticipate the start of this position in mid-August, but some flexibility may be available.
Specifically, the Preschool Environmental Educator (Farmergarten, Full-Time) will:
- Assist Lead Teacher on a daily basis with classroom responsibilities for our 5-day Farmergarten (4s/5s) preschool
- Assist in creating and enacting stronger environmental education curriculum within the classroom during the school year and for extended school/summer camp sessions.
- Use live animals for programs within the classroom and also on the farm
- Assist with classroom management and keeping classroom and materials safe and orderly
- Attend staff meetings
- Reports to the Head of Early Childhood Education any concerns or challenges related to designated class
- Attend professional development workshops
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Essential Skills:
- Degree in Environmental Education, Biology, or Early Childhood a plus
- Previous preschool or early childhood experience
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be a “team player”
- Must be comfortable in the outdoor environment and use the outdoor environment on a regular basis to support curriculum.
- Love and respect for the natural world
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment
- Comfortable with animals and willingness to learn how to handle certain animals to enhance curriculum and use both in the classroom and outdoors
- Certified in First Aid, CPR and Epi-pen or willingness to be trained
