The Maritime Education Coordinator (MEC) works as a leader and is comfortable facilitating learning in multiple content areas, 21st century and maritime skills, and collaborating with Maritime Industry Partners. Northwest Maritime Center Staff serve as maritime instructional leaders implementing positive youth development practices and share collective responsibility for the student support and social-emotional learning of students.

Summary

Maritime High School (MHS) launched in the fall of 2021. A student-centered, equity-driven, maritime-focused endeavor, MHS is a unique school that is a collaborative project of Highline Public  Schools (HPS), Northwest Maritime Center (NWMC), Duwamish River Community Coalition (DRCC), and the Port of Seattle. As a newly launched school entering its third year, MHS is designed with community, family, and learner input.

MHS curriculum is divided into two distinct phases. Spanning 9th and 10th grades, the Explore phase has students exploring a variety of academic subjects, maritime experiences, and career paths. Then the Launch phase where students choose a focus area and engage in classroom instruction, internship experiences, and career pathways that prepare them for the next steps in their career development including post-secondary education.

We love working with team members who:

  • Pitch in when a collaborative effort is needed
  • Thrive in a dynamic and innovative workplace
  • Understand and embrace the value of continuous improvement
