Summary

Position : Part-Time Middle School Math Teacher

Division : The Hamilton School at Wheeler

The Wheeler School, a co-ed. N-12 independent day school of approximately 800 students in the College Hill neighborhood of Providence, RI, is seeking a Hamilton/Wheeler Lower School Science Teacher and co-advisor position at The Hamilton School at Wheeler. This position is for the 2022-23 academic year. The Hamilton School at Wheeler is a school-within-a-school for children with diagnosed learning differences, including dyslexia and ADHD. The program has been nationally recognized for its innovative work with children who have learning differences.

Founded by visionary educator and artist Mary C. Wheeler in 1889, Wheeler is a school committed to challenging academics, a rich performing and visual arts curriculum, and innovation. Our urban campus is supplemented by a 120-acre farm campus, which is the site of seven fields, tennis courts, a field house, and provides many experiential learning opportunities for students of all ages. Hamilton students are taught in academic classes separate from Wheeler students. However, they are integrated with Wheeler students for all “special” subject areas such as art, music, and physical education. Sometimes, Hamilton and Wheeler “cross over” for math classes.

The Hamilton School at Wheeler is a school-within-a-school where skilled faculty meet students’ learning differences with the individualized instruction that leads to success. Hamilton students are also taught to advocate for themselves and others with learning differences.

Since 1988, the Hamilton School at Wheeler has served elementary and middle school children who have great overall cognitive ability, but who struggle with reading, organization and study skills due to dyslexia, attention-deficit disorder (ADHD), executive function deficits or other learning differences.  We believe — and prove daily — that our students can learn these important skills and meet the highest expectations.

Additional teaching responsibilities may be available through Wheeler's Aerie Enrichment Program if a candidate is interested in these opportunities and has the experience and qualifications to teach select classes.

  • Plan and lead small groups mathematics instruction in Hamilton seventh and eighth grade (3-5 students per group).
