The part-time, year-round environmental science educator (28 hrs/week) works as part of the education team at Trees For Tomorrow in Eagle River, WI to deliver NGSS-based environmental-science programs for visiting school groups and other participants. This position also works to provide interpretive nature public programming for all ages. This position also assumes responsibility for coordinating TFT's "Careers in Natural Resources" weeklong summer workshop for high schoolers.

Summary

The part-time, year-round environmental science educator (28 hrs/week) works as part of the education team at Trees For Tomorrow in Eagle River, WI to deliver NGSS-based environmental-science programs for visiting school groups and other participants.  This position also works to provide interpretive nature public programming for all ages.  This position also assumes responsibility for coordinating TFT's "Careers in Natural Resources" weeklong summer workshop for high schoolers.

Environmental Science Educator Responsibilities

  • Present courses and special programs in a knowledgeable, stimulating, engaging, and objective manner resulting in student participation and an effective learning experience.
  • Coordinate and lead TFT’s “Natural Resources Careers Exploration (NRCEW)” week for high schoolers
  • Guide participants in outdoor inquiry-based learning and activities.
  • Ensure participant safety at all times.
  • Assess student learning and improve educational programs.
  • Operate all equipment related to course and program presentation including vehicles with trailers.
  • Interact with live program animals, and animal artifacts such as skulls, pelts, and other taxidermy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in field of natural resources, biology, education or related field.
  • Experience in the field(s) of outdoor education, environmental education, general education, or natural/environmental sciences.
  • Familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage a group of students and chaperones (30+ at a time).
  • Willingness to learn and teach outdoor skills such hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biking, fire building, etc.
  • High sense of professionalism, strong team player, positive attitude.
  • Good organizational skills and self-motivated.
  • Willingness to interact with live program animals, and animal artifacts such as skulls, pelts, and other taxidermy.
  • Ability to walk 5 miles per day with a 10lb pack over rough terrain, and lift 25 lbs. overhead.
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van with a canoe trailer.
  • Willingness to obtain a Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) if needed
