Join our Afterschool in Nature program on 600 acres of forest, ponds, and meadow in central Vermont. As Outdoor Youth Education Facilitator, you'll lead nature-based afternoon programming for grades 3–8 — hiking, pond exploration, garden work, and seasonal outdoor learning — working alongside our Director of Youth Education within a trauma-informed, DCF-licensed program serving youth with higher support needs. We're looking for someone with 2+ years of outdoor education experience who brings a grounded, steady presence and a genuine commitment to nature-based youth work. Starting at $24/hour plus healthcare contribution and paid professional development. Hiring immediately.

Summary

Sage Mountain Botanical Sanctuary, a nonprofit conservation education center on 600 acres in Orange, Vermont, is hiring an Outdoor Youth Education Facilitator for our Afterschool in Nature program. Now in its fifth year, the program serves grades 3–8 Monday through Friday during the school year, with youth exploring mountain streams, forests, garden meadows, and snowy hills as they build both ecological knowledge and personal resilience.

In this role, you'll work closely with our Director of Youth Education to plan and implement nature-based curriculum, lead activities in the field, and provide steady, trauma-informed mentorship to youth — including those with higher support needs and limited prior access to outdoor programming. This is a hands-on, in-person role requiring comfort with varied terrain, water-based activities, and Vermont's full range of seasons and weather.

We're looking for someone with 2+ years of experience in nature or outdoor education, the ability to plan and document activities and learning objectives, and genuine skill holding a grounded presence with kids navigating behavioral or emotional challenges. A valid Vermont driver's license and reliable all-season transportation are required.

The position runs approximately 25–30 hours/week during the school year (Monday–Friday, roughly 1:00–6:30pm) and 40 hours/week for six weeks of Summer Camp. Starting pay is $24/hour, with healthcare contribution (ICHRA) and paid professional development offered. Hiring immediately.
