Summary
Hiring an Early Learning Assistant Teacher for a 9 month school-year position on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for a total of 18.5 hours a week starting September 2022. With school breaks the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Spring Break. Opportunity to provide summer programming available.
As a assistant teacher, you will:
Work closely with your classroom Lead Teacher and Leadership team. Assistant Teachers will be prepared to take the Lead Teacher role when the Lead Teacher is absent or otherwise engaged. Duties will include:
Be a Collaborative Member of the Teaching Team
- Teach and plan the curriculum for your classroom with other members of the teaching team. Implement provided curriculum with Coyote Mentoring learning platform.
- Create a welcoming and emotionally safe classroom centered around a respectful relationship with nature.
- Keep personal and group empowerment at the forefront of all we do, believing in the children and teaching them to believe in themselves and each other.
- Continually be aware of and address biased ideas and behaviors in the classroom and workplace, continue to learn your biases and dismantle them.
Assist in Responsibility for the Safety of Your Classroom
- Manage risk in an outdoor setting and proactively participate in daily and continual risk assessment
- All teachers required to maintain a first aid and toileting kit, kept on hand during all programs, replenishing form program stock when necessary.
Assist in Responsibility for the Wellbeing of All Students
- Partner with the Lead Teacher to collaboratively address the social, emotional, physical, spiritual and mental needs of your students.
- Takes into account each child’s unique needs and perspectives; honors their need for including and independence; understands their sensory needs and learning strategies and takes into account their strengths and areas they could use support.
- Seek support for student challenges from leadership when needed, report on progresses and challenges at routine meetings.
- Discipline students with positive discipline guidance; using respectful language, giving clear and achievable boundaries and giving reasonable and natural consequences whenever possible.
Family Communication and Support
- Assist in the ongoing assessment of students.
- Assist Lead Teacher with family communication and student data tracking
- In collaboration with teaching team, conduct parent-teacher conferences twice per year
- Collaboratively work with families of the program to meet needs, address concerns, and give reports, as needed at the end of the day.
Assist Lead Teacher in Managing Classroom and Site Needs
- Support overall planning for equipment and supply needs including packing, cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing class materials in the Administrative Offices
- Work with your teaching team to set up and take down the classroom daily, including canopies in wet/cold weather. Check for safety hazards, trach, and any gear left behind.

How to apply:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have some experience teaching children 3-6 years of age in environmental education programs, school, childcare or preschool settings.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis, including loading and unloading classroom materials, moving sticks and logs, and moving children. Carry a backpack that weighs up to 30lbs for extended periods of time.
- Must have personal transportation and be willing to transport program supplies as needed.
- First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Be able to pass a background check, have your own transportation and cell phone.
