The Ogden Nature Center offers a wide variety of classes & workshops for all ages, summer camps, plus hiking trails live animal exhibits, self-guided experiences, great community events and more.

The Outreach Educator/Naturalist is primarily responsible for providing off-site nature education programs to 1st grade students throughout the state of Utah. During the summer months, they provide instruction for summer camp groups, ages pre-k through 12.

Outreach Educator/Naturalist - iSEE

Reports to: Outreach Coordinator

Full-time (exempt) position

Salary: $32,000-$38,000

Located in the heart of Ogden, Utah, the Ogden Nature Center is an award-winning 152-acre nature preserve and education center. The Ogden Nature Center offers a wide variety of classes & workshops for all ages, summer camps, plus hiking trails live animal exhibits, self-guided experiences, great community events and more. 

The Outreach Educator/Naturalist is primarily responsible for providing off-site nature education programs to 1st grade students throughout the state of Utah. During the summer months, they provide instruction for summer camp groups, ages pre-k through 12.

Full time Position - 40 hrs. per week
Monday through Friday (September through May)
Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays (June, July, and August)

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide environmental education programming to first grade students throughout the state of Utah.
  • Transport materials and animals for programming using company vehicle.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of on-site education programs as assigned, including school programs, preschool programs, summer camps, summer Saturday programs and community programs.
  • Handle and transport animals for educational presentations.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of education programs, materials, travel expenses and mileage reports.
  • Participate in events and fundraisers.
  • Assist with PR opportunities, including booths at community events and the farmer’s market.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree or higher in environmental education, wildlife biology, education, or related field preferred. 
  • Prior handling of small reptiles and experience in informal education is highly desirable.  
  • Must be able to hold and move birds of prey, snakes, and other wildlife safely. 
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds, walk up to one mile on uneven terrain in all weather conditions, and speak to large groups.  
  • Enjoys working with people of all ages and has excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be articulate, with good writing skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Computer proficient (Word, Excel, email).
  • Must enjoy working and being outdoors.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and Saturdays in the summer months.
  • Must be willing and able to travel for programs for up to a week at a time.
  • Must be willing and able to drive long distances in a company vehicle.
  • Must be a US citizenship or be a lawful permanent resident.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous outdoor work under all weather conditions.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must provide 3 professional references.
