Bushy Hill Nature Center (Ivoryton, Connecticut) is seeking Part-time Outdoor Educators for our Spring 2022 season.

Summary

Bushy Hill Nature Center (Ivoryton, Connecticut) is looking for Outdoor Educators for our Spring 2022 season. BHNC is a program of the Incarnation Center and offers educational programming and team building to area schools both onsite and at offsite locations. The mission of Bushy Hill Nature Center is to inspire people of all ages to connect with the environment through hands-on experiential learning, while working together to build a stronger community with respect for the natural world.

Outdoor Educators, under the direction of the Director, host school groups for students ages 7-18 for a variety of hands-on, experiential environmental education programs. Our most popular spring programs focus on wetlands, pollinators and team building activities. Qualified applicants will have a science, humanities or recreation background. Programs taught will include Indigenous Studies, Wetlands and Team Building.

This is a part-time, variable position with most programs taking place during school hours. Paid training will occur onsite (Friday, April 15th).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in environmental science, biology, recreation, education, or related field
  • Experience working in outdoor education, environmental science, recreation, education, or related field
  • Experience working in camp or educational setting with youth
  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching about the natural world
  • Ability and desire to teach, inspire and engage people of all backgrounds and abilities
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Maintain good humor and apply professional, common-sense solutions to everyday challenges. Learn, meet new people, reflect, and take initiative to continue to grow in the field.
  • Creativity, energy, motivation, and professionalism
  • Passion for being outside and connecting others with nature, no matter the weather
  • Flexibility with regard to tasks, work hours, changes in program or plans, etc.
  • Ability to attend (paid) staff training on April 15th (time TBD)

Work Schedule:

  • The majority of programming takes place Monday-Friday between 8am-2pm. Occasionally there are opportunities to work late afternoons, evenings or weekends. You may be scheduled to work between 0-25 hours depending on the season and demand for education programming.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
