At Deer Hill, we value diversity, community, compassion, self-awareness, and challenge. On the job, you will work in small teams to care for and guide teenage participants through 1-3 week wilderness and service experiences. Working with young people for long stretches of time is not without challenge. We strive to balance that challenge with cup-filling time together playing as hard as we work in the mountains and rivers of our backyard or taking time to decompress and bond in the communal spaces at Basecamp. At the end of the season, you'll leave feeling empowered by the meaningful work and cared for by a new community of incredible individuals.

Summary

Deer Hill Expeditions seeks Field Staff who can bring our mission to life, turning our core values of autentic connection to self, othhers, and place into lasting lessons for themselves and those they serve.

A strong background in group facilitation and the ability to teach diverse student groups, typically ages 11–18, are highly valued. Deer Hill works with three distinct client demographics. One are Spring and Fall school groups who design custom multi-day adventures. These group programs often serve as a capstone experience for classes who have been together for many consecutive years. The second is Summer open-enrollment where students fill in our predesigned and publicly available multi-week expeditions. The third is collaboration with non-profit youth development organizations, like Summer Search and Success Academy, to host groups of high school students who are seeking a leadership and life-changing experience in the outdoors.

Field Staff work alongside the breathtaking landscapes of the Four Corners region, employing tools such as whitewater rafting, backpacking, canoeing, and immersive Indigenous cultural experiences to create place-based experiential learning opportunities. DHE Field Staff are trained to assess and manage risks across a variety of wilderness environments. Through rigorous initial training and ongoing professional development, they become skilled, confident, and empowered outdoor educators, ready to lead and inspire.
