The Instructor Position: For inquisitive educators who want to walk along the Pacific Coast and Lead 4th-5th graders through Redwood Forests. It is well-suited for folks with experience in outdoor education, classroom teaching and/or engaging and supporting low-income and students of color. We are looking for someone who wants to be challenged and work hard towards educational equity and who thrives with lots of responsibility and details.

Summary

Vida Verde Nature Education is seeking full-time School Year Instructors for the 2026–2027 season (August through early June). This role blends outdoor education, student support, and site caretaking in a residential environmental education setting.

Instructors lead 3-day, 2-night programs for 4th–6th grade students, facilitating activities such as redwood hikes, tidepool exploration, organic farming, goat milking, campfire programs, and night hikes. The role also includes meal facilitation, student supervision, and maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Driving a 20-passenger electric bus (CDL Class C with Passenger Endorsement required; support provided to obtain)
  • Participating in weekly professional development and team meetings
  • Completing site and farm-related caretaker duties (Mondays and periodic weekends)

This is an active, hands-on role requiring long days during program (10–12 hours), working outdoors in varying conditions, and the ability to hike several miles and lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation Information

  • $20/hour with CDL (38–45 hours/week, approx. $800/week)
  • $16.50/hour without CDL until obtained (typically within 3 months)
  • Housing provided (private bedroom in shared staff housing or yurt)
  • Optional $200/month contribution toward health, dental, and vision insurance
