Great job - Outdoor Center Host in the North Carolina mountains! Not just in the mountains, actually on top of one! Mountain Air's Outdoor Discovery Center is a private indoor nature walk, wildlife resource center, and the community's gateway to all kinds of outdoor adventures and learning. Applicants must be comfortable and confident working in a country club environment.

Summary

Mountain Air’s Natural Resources team is looking for a few good Outdoor Discovery Center (ODC) Hosts to help create remarkable, personalized nature experiences for the Mountain Air community through October 2022. Summer and part-time schedules will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The nature program is an amenity of Mountain Air Country Club. ODC hosts are well-organized nature team members with the primary task of keeping a small nature program and outdoor center running smoothly. An ODC Host is an enthusiastic environmental educator who brings great customer service to guests, and administrative efficiency to the nature program.

SCHEDULE:

The nature team's schedule parallels seasonal vacation activity; when other people play, we work. Fortunately, we get to work on an amazing mountain with stunning vistas, so it generally balances out. The schedule includes weekends and holidays through October and several evenings per month. A part-time schedule may be considered, depending on the applicant pool.

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  • Service-oriented, engaging "people person"
  • Nature enthusiast with knowledge of Appalachian flora & fauna
  • Can hike at least 3 miles on rough trails
  • Is comfortable working in a country club/resort environment
  • Is comfortable when handling reptiles (resident corn snake and 2 turtles)
  • Possesses a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and has reliable transportation

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma at minimum.
  • Progress toward or completion of a 2 or 4-year degree in biology, ecology, environmental studies, wildlife management, or related natural science field is preferred.
  • An understanding of high service standards in a hospitality setting and the ability to meet these standards is critical.

How to apply:

Please submit your cover letter, resume, and application ASAP through Mountain Air's employment webpage:

Applications will be followed by a phone conversation and an on-site interview. The position is open until filled.
