Apply to serve as Program Coordinator for the Outdoor Adventures summer day camp program at the Greater Ithaca Activities Center! Located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of central New York, GIAC summer day-camps serve children from diverse backgrounds, including communities of color and low-income families. The goal of the Outdoor Adventures Program is to broaden campers’ experiences in the outdoors and nature, including learning about plants and animals, hiking and navigation, and exploring and enjoying our local parks, forests, and natural areas. The Coordinator will work with camp counselors, local volunteer-guides experienced in natural history and outdoor recreation, and GIAC staff to organize and accompany camp groups on Outdoor Adventures. Position Responsibilities: With planning assistance from the Cayuga Trails Club, establish schedule of 2—4 Outdoor Adventures for each camp group for the 6-week session and communicate with guides to confirm dates/times, locations, and activities. Work with GIAC staff to organize transportation and lunches, communicate with State Parks and other agencies about planned visits, and coordinate with camp counselors regarding dates, activities, and communication with parents/guardians and campers. Accompany camp groups on all outings, assisting both the counselors and guides. GIAC camps serve children ages 5-12, with 10 children and 2 staff in each group.
Employment dates and hours: 35-40 hrs per week, Monday-Friday: 8:30am-5pm, Jun 27Aug 12, except July 4 & Aug 5).
Pay: $18/hr (Approximately $5000 for 7 weeks.)
Qualifications:
- Outdoors experience/interests: comfortable hiking, interested in natural history (geology, animals, plants, etc)
- Other skills: good communication across all ages; planning and organizational skills
