This people-centered position ensures a welcoming experience to all who visit and work at the center. The person in this role will interact across all spheres of the Hitchcock community and as such has an essential voice in both the day-to-day procedural operations and the overall strategic vision of the center.

Visitor and Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible as primary opener and closer of the center during open hours, and primary manager of phone and email messages . 
  • Provide excellent customer service while greeting and registering visitors in person and by phone and in general introducing visitors to the Hitchcock Center and about programs and events.
  • Provide orientation to the Center’s state-of-the-art Living Building and direct visitors throughout the Outdoor Learning Spaces and trail systems. 
  • Monitor the teaching animals and be comfortable introducing them to visitors and program participants.
  • Manage the Volunteer Program. Recruit, train and supervise volunteers/work study students for gardens, grounds, reception, office and animal care.
  • Support and expand on an existing volunteer base of 45 hours per week.

Office & Systems Duties:

  • Manage Facility Rental – facilitate rentals and arrange for staffing if needed and put rentals into the calendar.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the visitor center and overall building, grounds and nature play areas. 
  • Manage, update users, and troubleshoot office and building equipment and systems. 
  • Work with staff to keep office & program supplies and copy room stocked and organized.
  • Work with supervisor to manage operations budget. 
  • Schedule building, greywater and fire code inspections for public buildings, summer camp and maintain necessary permits.
  • Manage contracts for snow removal, mowing, cleaning, building & grounds maintenance, HVAC, effluent & waste removal, IT support.

 

Compensation Information

Salary Range $41,600 - $52,000. The total compensation package includes health insurance and generous paid time off benefits.
