Nature's Classroom at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum is seeking enthusiastic, fun, and talented individuals excited to work with young people in our outdoor education program.The spring season begins February 24th, 2024  - May 24th, 2024 . Although having nature education teaching experience is a plus, it isn't necessary. As long as you are excited to learn, Nature's Classroom can teach you what you need to know.

Summary

Nature's Classroom at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum offers 2 to 5-day residential programs, day programs and school visits with a custom designed curriculum to meet the needs of each group. Outdoor Education Instructors will be assigned a field group (typically 6th graders) and will lead hands-on, activity-based programming that includes outdoor classes, interpretive nature hikes, night hikes, campfires, and large group games. Instructors also eat meals with their group, lead team building and nature center activities, and work with groups on the high ropes course may be required. Compensation starts at $425/week, extensive training, room, meals (when students are at camp), optional weekend work for additional pay, and the use of camp equipment during free time. The staff house includes a full kitchen, TV, WiFi, and laundry facility. Your weekends are free to explore the surrounding area, including proximity to Cuyahoga Valley National Park and other great hiking and outdoor exploration activities. 

Specific skills recommended:

  • Interest in educating and leading middle school students
  • Initiative when starting and completing tasks

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school degree
  • History of working with children 
  • Ability to pass a background check 

Responsibilities: (Training will be provided)

  • Teaching classes that align with middle school educational standards
  • Leading interpretive nature hikes 
  • Programing with live animal ambassadors 
  • Facilitating team-building experiences
  • Promoting respect, personal growth and challenge by choice in all activities
  • Collaborate with other educators and staff to support student learning and development
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
