Tiny Green Trees is seeking a summer Environmental Educator who is motivated, self directed, and energetic with strong interest in youth development and outdoor environmental work to lead our OUTdoor Explorers summer program. The Lead Environmental Teacher will design and implement and assess developmentally appropriate high quality nature-based early childhood education for children ages 5 – 8. The curriculum will ensure children have a strong connection to nature and spend their days outside in all weather conditions.

Summary

Tiny Green Trees is seeking a summer Environmental Educator who is motivated, self directed, and energetic with strong interest in youth development and outdoor environmental work to lead our OUTdoor Explorers summer program. The Lead Environmental  Teacher will  design and implement and assess developmentally appropriate high quality nature-based early childhood education for children ages 5 – 8.   The curriculum will ensure children have a strong connection to nature and spend their days outside in all weather conditions. 

Primary Responsibilities
– Work collaboratively with their team to design, organize and implement nature-based
early childhood education curriculum and experiences both in the indoor and outdoor classrooms;
– Facilitate a collaborative approach to planning and teaching within their instructional team;
– Assure compliance with all licensing rules and regulations;
Be aware of and responsive to early childhood best practices related to social emotional and academic learning, special needs, diversity, equity, and inclusion;
– Determine professional learning needs and opportunities;
– Maintain open communication with Directors and Owners. 
– Work with the Site Director to train, supervise, and evaluate Assistant Teachers, undergraduate teaching candidates, and volunteers;
– Communicate consistently with families in person or via email, phone call, Brightwheel
– Learn and implement social emotional skill building 
– Manage collection, organization, and use of anecdotal note taking
– Plan and facilitate parent/caregiver and volunteer involvement;
– Participate in staff meetings, staff professional development events, and family gatherings

Professional Responsibilities: Maintain educational and training to enhance skill set.

Required Qualifications/Skills: ● Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or education field and/or 2-3 years experience teaching outdoor, hands-on science ● Ability to follow instructions without close supervision ● Understanding of basic ecological concepts and willingness to learn environmental education lessons and issues specific to Wisconsin● Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the program and participants ● Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather ● Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, carry tools and plants, stand for long periods of time.

Desired Qualifications/Skills: ● First Aid and CPR Training ● Hands-on curriculum development experience ● Familiarity with the natural areas of Wisconsin● Experience working with children, pre-K through elementary in an outdoor setting ● Knowledgeable of age-appropriate teaching strategies ● Familiarity with environmental topics ● Ability to think on your feet and solve problems on the spot.

– Demonstrated interest in young children and early childhood education;
– Interest in nature, nature-based inquiry and learning;
– Willingness to spend a significant amount of time outdoors each day, in all types of weather;
– Demonstrated good character, responsibility and suitability to meet the needs of children with diverse backgrounds and learning differences;
– Demonstrated ability to work in a team;
– Must complete and pass a Wisconsin background check, including fingerprinting;
– Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR, training will be provided if
needed;
– Bilingual English speakers are encouraged to apply;
– Background/experience in nature-based instruction, outdoor education or similar field is encouraged.

Program runs June -August between the hours of 7am and 5:30pm M-F

Compensation Information

Hourly $16-$18 based on education and experience.
