About Mass Audubon
Mass Audubon is the largest nature-based conservation organization in New England. Founded in 1896 by two women who fought for the protection of birds, Mass Audubon carries on their legacy by focusing on the greatest challenges facing the environment today: the loss of biodiversity, inequitable access to nature, and climate change. With the help of our 160,000 members and supporters, we protect wildlife, conserve and restore resilient land, advocate for impactful environmental policies, offer nationally recognized education programs for adults and children, and provide endless opportunities to experience the outdoors at our wildlife sanctuaries. About This Position
Pathways to Nature, the Boston Nature Center preschool, is a vibrant early education program that serves a diverse community of students, ages 3 to 6. The program is designed to support local families with full-day, year-round programming, and sliding-scale tuition (in which fees are based on a family’s income). Preschoolers, in each of the three classrooms, spend the school year exploring the sanctuary by engaging in hands-on learning and discovery. Each teaching team works collaboratively to design age appropriate, nature-based curriculum. Units utilize BNC’s 67 acres to build each preschooler’s understanding of the world around them, to grow their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills, and to prepare them for kindergarten. The Boston Nature Center (BNC) is vibrant urban oasis in the heart of Mattapan, a richly diverse neighborhood of Boston. The preschool classrooms have 67 acres of meadows, forests, and wetlands to explore every day with students.
The Preschool Director commits the majority of their time in supervision of the preschool in accordance with Mass Audubon’s Action Agenda strategic goals and Mass Audubon’s education frameworks, standards, and practices, and policies. They are responsible for the coordination and oversight of all curriculum and program development, licensing and risk management, marketing and registration, staff hiring and supervision, program evaluation, and budget management. The Preschool Director supervises full-time, benefitted staff as well as part-time regularly scheduled and per diem substitute teachers. The Preschool Director also serves as a resource and ambassador for nature-based early education. Come and join a team of dedicated and inspiring individuals who are passionate about teaching early education in an urban wildlife sanctuary.
