ABOUT 10 ACRE WOOD NATURE PRESCHOOL 

10 Acre Wood Nature Preschool, LLC is a play- and nature-based preschool located in Lakeville, Minnesota. We currently are licensed to have 10 spots at our school, with full-time and part-time enrollment options. We welcome children aged 33 mos through kindergarten. Our school is situated on 10 acres of not only wood but wetland and native prairie as well! School is run out of an environmentally-friendly converted pole barn and we are dedicated to teaching children how to be great environmental stewards. 

 Our school mission at 10 Acre Wood is to foster the next generation to become empathetic, considerate and knowledgeable and eco-conscious citizens through role modeling and immersion in nature. 

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

This job averages 8.5 hours a week with the ability to add extra hours as willing and able. 
 

Primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of children in attendance, ages 33 mos - 5 years, with the help of a co-teacher. Our student to teacher ratio is 5:1. 

 

Provides developmentally appropriate safe play in both outdoor and classroom environments. Evaluates and makes recommendations for improvement, as needed. Actively participates in long- and short-term planning. Nurture individual needs of children while managing whole group experiences and unstructured play.  

Maintains clear communications with fellow co-teacher and substitute teachers. Document learning progress in many formats (written documentation, photos, content for Brightwheel, etc.).  

Promotes a close relationship with parents through daily, weekly, and monthly communications by conducting regular meetings, phone calls, and parent conferences during and outside of class time and ensures families feel that their traditions, experiences, and individual needs are reflected through all aspects of the program.  

Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.  

Performs related duties as assigned or apparent, such as daily cleaning and sanitization of the indoor classroom. Other duties that support families, children, and/or staff in the program may be also assigned.  

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALITIES 

  • Experience in early childhood education and/or outdoor/nature education programs preferred, but not necessary 

  • Love of children, love of learning, love of nature 

  • Patient, compassionate disposition 

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills 

  • Must have current CPR and First-Aid certification or be willing to obtain within 30 days of hire. 

  • Must pass state of MN background check and physician’s report upon hire
