Position Purpose

Oversee daily operations in the Nature Play Space. Plan and facilitate related children and family classes and workshops. Work collaboratively with the Children’s Education Team and other members of the department to achieve the department’s annual and long-range goals within the mission of the Garden.

Essential Duties

Program Administration 

· Responsible for the daily implementation of the Nature Play Space including staffing and materials maintenance

· Plan and implement both independent and facilitated programming for the Nature Play Space

· Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop curriculum for supporting programs including camps, family programs, teen programs, and scout programs.

· Supports the Program Director in achieving projected revenue and expense goals; maintain budgeting records.

 

Personnel

· Hire, supervise, mentor, coach, and evaluate Nature Play staff

· Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers

 

Marketing & Outreach

· Support Children’s Education staff to develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies for all programming, including catalog copy, website updates, social media, and event tabling.

 

Garden and Department Support

· Assist with planning and facilitating children and family classes and workshops as needed.

· Participate in department and Garden staff meetings, planning teams, and events.

· Provide excellent customer service to all visitors. Respond to general questions and assist with registration for all Children’s programming.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Museum Studies, or relevant experience equivalent

· Minimum of two years’ combined program facilitation experience in education, informal learning or public programs

· Minimum of two years’ experience in supervisory roles

· Flexibility to work well with a team and independently

· Experience working with volunteers

· A valid driver’s license is required

· Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

· Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays

 

Equipment Used

Typical office equipment. This role also uses multiple toys, games, and tools to facilitate outdoor learning and enjoyment.

 

Internal Communication

Frequent communication with Garden employees and volunteers. 

 

External Communication

Limited

 

Working Conditions

Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds required. Some of the work will occur in a traditional office setting; however, a good portion of the Supervisor’s time will be spent outdoors and subject to extreme weather.
