Nature-Based Kindergarten Teacher

 Kindergarten Teacher Experience Required:

• Experience teaching kindergarten or elementary school.
• Experience in outdoor education, or passionate to learn alongside our Head Teacher and her Rising 5s class.
• Capacity for engaging and motivating students, incorporating choice and student interest, and differentiation of instruction.
• Knowledge of child development

Our kindergarteners learn from standard reading and math textbook programs and also play in and learn about nature outside in the park behind the school and in our beautiful outdoor classroom for at least 2 hours per day year-round.   In addition, we are fortunate to be in walkable downtown Chatham and do walking field trips to local businesses, the emergency squad and fire department, as well as longer walking trips to the Passaic River. Baking, process art, singing, and growing and eating vegetables are also part of our curriculum.

Our kindergarten consists of up to 8 students, and the Rising 5 class of 8 students would be accompanying the kindergarten for outdoor science and play at least once per day.  Our Rising 5s teacher, who is also head teacher, is a naturalist who excites children about local creatures, native and non-native plants, fungi (which we had a lot of new sightings of this rainy spring) as well as the physics of balls, hoops, cup stilt, hill rolling, sledding, ice/rain play, and more.
