Naturalist Internship: Full time, Summer season minimum 16 weeks between May and September with possibility to begin early in April, or extend into November for Cook Inlet beluga monitoring research. Under the direction of the Director of Education, Naturalist Interns will provide interpretation and educational opportunities for guests, aid in maintaining sanctuary presentability and safety, have training in and assist with animal care duties, as well as support year-round education staff as needed.

Summary

Naturalist Internship: Full time, Summer season minimum 16 weeks between May and September with possibility to begin early in April, or extend into November for Cook Inlet beluga monitoring research. Under the direction of the Director of Education, Naturalist Interns will provide interpretation and educational opportunities for guests, aid in maintaining sanctuary presentability and safety, have training in and assist with animal care duties, as well as support year-round education staff as needed. 

A Naturalist Intern’s primary responsibility is assisting the year-round education team in all interpretation, educational programming, and tours both at AWCC and off site. This position is designed for college students or recent graduates interested in working in this field regardless of relation to their current degree path. In this position, interns will have the opportunity to gain experience and skills relative to position duties. Interns will also be trained on animal care duties and procedures. This position is eligible as a credit earning opportunity in the University of Alaska system along with several other universities.
