POSITION SUMMARY

The Naturalist will be responsible for work that involves planning, organizing, coordinating, and oversees the programs and daily operations of the 1000 Islands Environmental Center.

MAJOR POSITION DUTIES

  • Conduct the 1000 Islands Environmental Center in accordance with Center policies, City of Kaukauna Ordinances, City of Kaukauna Personnel Policy Manual, and government legislation and regulations.
  • Collaborate with City Department of Public Works to coordinate the maintenance, utilization and preservation of the Environmental Center building, grounds, and other assets.
  • Prepares reports, program plans, and site objectives and goals.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate and present education programs, tours, and services for all age groups at the Center, schools and educational institutions, social and civic and other related groups. Share in maintaining usage reservations for public use of Center building and grounds according to established Center policies.
  • Develop interpretive goals, themes, and displays for site, nature center and signage.
  • Collaborate with City Marketing and Communications Manager to develop, coordinate, and conduct marketing and public relations activities to promote interest in and awareness of the Center.
  • Direct and supervise the work of all volunteers.
  • Direct and supervise the work of Center personnel. Work collaboratively with Human Resources for recruiting, performance evaluation, and terminations.
  • Work with Outagamie County Restore to Justice Program and the Kaukauna Judicial Department for placement of court ordered Community Service People.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate fundraising activities, including memorial funds and grant writing.
  • Act as advisor and committee liaison to the Friends and volunteers of the 1000 Islands Environmental Center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
